Summer Lunch Program in Middletown 2011
Lily Gagliardi, C.E.O. of Lily’s Kids Inc., gave a talk and activity session on August 11, 2011, to children attending the Summer Lunch Program in Middletown, CT. This statewide program is located at the Salvation Army facility and feeds between 40 and 100 children during weekdays throughout the summer. The children who attended the Lily’s Kids Inc. activity session were standouts in their knowledge about food groups and nutrition. Marilyn Dunkley, a trained chef, has been the coordinator of this program during its three-year tenure and has had many of the same children participating since it began. The Summer Lunch Program boats more than free food. It offers many educational opportunities for the children who attend ranging from gardening, cooking and nutrition classes and trips to the North End Farmers Market.
